Quick Start Tutorial for 1st Timers
« on: April 16, 2014, 01:01:48 AM »
This is a quick start guide to show you how easy it is to start mining coins.

This guide will NOT get you rich. This guide will not net you mass amounts of any type of cryptocurrency.
This method can be used by anyone, with any sort of Windows Based Computer setup.

You need the following:

1) A coin to mine.
2) A mining program for your computer.
3) A pool to join.

Sounds easy enough right?

Step 1.

Go to your chosen coins website. We're using Dnotescoin.

Download the wallet software and install it.

Once installed, open the tab named "Receive Coins"

Right click on the address, and then click on "Copy Address"

Keep this information, you will need it soon.

Step 2.

Download a miner program.

Since this is basic and can be done by anyone regardless of computer hardware, use minerd.

Minerd Download Link

Create a new folder on your hard drive. (name it something easy to remember)

Locate the file you downloaded  (check your downloads folder)

Unzip the file contents into the folder you created on your hard drive.

Step 3.

Locate a pool for mining. You can normally find this on your chosen coins website.

Since are using Dnotescoin. We'll use the Charity Mining Pool setup for Dnotes.

Create an account.

Verify account via email.

Log into website.

Click on "Edit Account"  You can find this under Edit Account.

You'll need to unlock your account in order to edit the details, once that is completed:

Paste your payment address into the account details, setup the automatic payment threshold, etc.

Now click on My Workers.

Enter in a worker name, and a password. (Do not use the same information you used in account creation)

Keep this information handy. You'll need it.

Step 4.

Click on "Help" then "Getting Started"

There you will find details on how to configure your miner.

Copy that information, and paste it into notepad.

You will need to change "-u Weblogin.Worker -p Worker password" to reflect the information you created for your worker back in step 3. For example: if your username was Mary, and your workers name was 1, with a password of BOB, that information would end up looking like:

minerd -a --scrypt -t 6 -s 4 -o stratum+tcp:// -u mary.1 -p BOB

Now what you want to do is click on "File" and then "Save As"

Now choose the folder you created back in step 2, as the location to save the file.
Change the name of the file to minecoins.bat
Change the "Save as Type" to "All Files"

Step 5.

Open the folder you created earlier on your hard drive, and double click the file you created named minecoins.bat.

Congratulations, you are mining coins.

Now earlier that you will not get rich mining coins this way. It's the original method of mining coins, using the CPU or computers brain to do all the work. Things have evolved significantly, and there are many more efficient ways to mine coins. However, they tend to require after market video cards, or specialized mining hardware.

Happy mining.

Thank you to whoever posted this!!! I could have used this information when I first started and it would have saved me a lot of time. Now that I have gotten a start with bitcoin and I know what I am doing somewhat, I can refer others to the forum and that post in particular! Thanks MiCrux

I just have a new desktop so I can do this and mine a few Dnotes daily? Also what other cheap miners can I buy to boost up DNOTES mining from home?
