I know that cryptocurrencies are putting up real competition against world currencies.  Do you think any governments will release their own cryptocurrency to combat this issue and compete?

It doesn't seem too far fetched.  Why wouldn't they?

The Canadian government starting developing their own digital currency called the Mint Chip in April, 2012 and finally called it quits in April, 2014.

Iceland has a cryptocurrency called Auroracoin.  Every citizen is entitled to 31.8 Auroracoin which is right around 400 US dollars.

You can read more about it here - http://gawker.com/meet-auroracoin-icelands-new-digital-cryptocurrency-1551130197

That's an interesting way to get everyone interested and involved, but I wonder if that decreases its value and significance.

That sure seems to be what happened, doesn't it?  I don't think the general population is ready to have something they know nothing about "dropped" on them without a little guidance (like from Crypto Moms !!)
